Preface
It had been twenty-five years since the beginning of the end. The world had finally gone mad. Most never knew how it began, but it didn’t matter. There were too many nuclear warheads and every country used them. No country was exempt from the nuclear devastation. All of the major population centers were hit. If the initial blast didn’t kill the inhabitants, the fallout eventually did. The lucky ones were those that lived far away from the major population centers, but they were few compared to the numbers that perished.
All of the governments fell and anarchy reigned. The chaos lasted for years, but even that soon went away. All of the technology that the world had relied on was gone forever. It was as though the world went back a hundred years, but this time, there wasn’t enough people left on the planet or enough inhabitable land for it to be resurrected.
This is where the story begins, the tale of survival for those that remained. Some might say that they would be better off dead, but the human spirit tends to think differently. In the face of impossible odds and innumerable obstacles, they find solace in the most unexpected places and ways. They will do things that would’ve been inconceivable in the past for survival. And there are always those that will take advantage of the unfortunate and use their power to subjugate the weak.
CHAPTER 1
Kingdom of Lord Michael
Meadow Brook Hall is located in the upper part of what was once Michigan. The 110-room, 88,000-square-foot mansion was built in the mid-1920s by Matilda Dodge Wilson, wife of the auto pioneer John Dodge. It’s situated on 1,400 acres on the edge of Lake Huron. It was far enough from Detroit to survive the nuclear attack. It was close to the Canadian border, so the cold winters discouraged most survivors to reside there. They took off to warmer climates.
One saw opportunity that others didn’t see. Major General Michael Campbell was lucky to be in an unpopulated area, hunting when the nuclear holocaust hit the world. He lived in Detroit, and he had visited Meadow Brook Hall when it was a historic site. With a small contingent of soldiers, he headed for it and set up his headquarters. At first, he tried to maintain his men as part of the United States military, but he soon learned there was no government left. He gave his men a choice—they could leave or stay with him. By that time, they all knew their families were gone and there were little choices left. All stayed with him.
The woods around Meadow Brook Hall began to encroach on it, and over the years, he began to build a giant wall around it. It took over ten years, little equipment was left that worked; the electronic pulse from the nuclear bombs had fried most electronics.
His numbers had grown over the years, but he became very selective in those that he allowed inside his compound. He knew he had to maintain an increasing population, so women were a priority for their child-rearing abilities, and they also stabilized the men he had, otherwise they would grow restless without female companionship.
After twenty-five years, Meadow Brook Hall had become more of a castle with high walls surrounding it and a small village nestled safely inside. The military uniforms were gone; his men dressed in black to distinguish them from the others, their numbers had grown to over 150, more than enough to repel any invaders, but they were always vigilant for those that thought they were an easy mark to take.
Major General Michael Campbell was gone; he was now Lord Michael, King of Meadow Brook Hall. Even at the age of sixty, he kept his trim, muscular military figure as though he defied age. He ruled his kingdom with an iron hand, but anyone could leave if they desired. No one was forced to abide by his rules, but the unknown outside the gates was enough to subjugate them to Lord Michael’s rule.
As in any kingdom, Lord Michael had his royal council to advise him. His most trusted men were part of this inner circle.
Money was no longer in existence but planning was a crucial. Lord Harris was the Chancellor of Planning. He oversaw all crop production, the shops in the village as well the many individuals that handmade the necessities needed for all to survive. As the kingdom’s population expanded, his power and workload increased. Lord Harris originally was one of Lord Michael’s soldiers, though when he joined, he was young. He grew into his power and prestigious. He was tall, over six feet two inches. As a soldier, he kept his body trim and muscular. At forty-five, he was the youngest of the council, but there was already the hint of stray gray hairs among his jet-black hair. He was handsome and could charm any woman with his wit and intelligence, though in Lord Michael’s kingdom, he didn’t need to. The royalty had the choice of any woman, at any time, married or unmarried. He was unmarried by choice, though he rarely slept alone in his bed. He had children, many of them, all from different women over the years, though he couldn’t give you the name of even one of them.
Controlling the largest contingent of men in the kingdom was Lord William. He oversaw the protection of the kingdom with his 150 men. After decades, most firearm ammunition was either depleted or no longer viable from rust, weather and deterioration. What little was left was used only in dire situations. His men had gone back to bows and arrows, spears, swords and other instruments of death. At least their enemies were also sent back to the dark ages with them, so it was a level playing field. Nothing mechanized had been seen in five years.
Lord Williams was an imposing figure fitting with his stature and responsibility. He was six feet five inches and two hundred fifty pounds of pure muscle. He didn’t have a drop of fat or flab on him. At fifty years old, he had the physique of a man in his twenties. He had a chiseled face and dark, brooding eyes that dared you to cross him. All feared him except for his men that respected him. In trouble, you could always find him in the front lines inspiring his men to action. He was fearless but also unmerciful.
Then, there was Bishop Roman. Religion in the form before the nuclear holocaust ceased to exist. There was no Vatican that controlled the Catholics, no churches, synagogues or temples. The Middle East was devastated with nuclear bombs, and their abundance of oil burned for ten years before it was finally extinguished from lack of fuel. The black cloud of smoke hung over the region for another five years before the earth could finally push it aside and let the sun back in. By that time, there was no one alive and Islam perished with it. There were rumors of some Buddhist temples still functioning high in the mountains in Asia, but it was only rumors.
Bishop Roman began his own religion, which worshipped the supreme god, Lord Michael. He wore a robe like a Christian, but the first vow of Christianity that he rid himself of was celibacy. The royalty’s access to any woman in its realm was too good to pass up. He was the least handsome of all the advisors. He was short, five feet five inches, slightly portly and growing bald. If it weren’t for his exalted position, no woman would touch him. Now, they worshipped his feet and other parts of his body, though most not by choice, only fearful of the consequences if they refused his advances.
The last member was the most crucial for life and death. Lord Joseph was in charge of health and welfare. As a medical doctor, he was one of the few they had; the rest of the staff had little medical training, a collection of former veterinarian technicians, EMT personnel and some nurses. Yet, they managed to keep everyone alive and bring forth the new babies the realm needed to survive for the future.
He was an unimposing person. He wore glasses, slightly balding, fifty years old with a slight belly that was hidden beneath his scrubs. Like the other royalty, he was unmarried. He enjoyed the company of many women, expert at bringing them pleasure, knowing their bodies better than they did.
The four men sat around the large, wooden table as they waited. The hall they were in was grand, laid out in regal beauty befitting of their importance. The flames from the torches on the walls blazed brightly in the damp room. Candles graced the table, four candelabra’s, each with a dozen black candles with flickering flames. The fireplace was black, fall hadn’t creeped up on them yet, but it was coming. The door opened on the other side of the room and four men with crossbows entered first, standing to the side of the door and waiting as Lord Michael entered.
Lord Michael came out with a flourish in his blue velvet robe that hung from his neck to his feet. A gold chain adorned his neck, heavy and imposing on his chest. He wore no crown, more in vanity than any other reason. He didn’t want to mess up his black long hair that graced his head. You couldn’t find a single gray hair or a bald spot, though the gray hairs were only gone due to being dyed weekly. Michael was a vain man about his looks. He took meticulous care of his body, refusing to age. That was a fault of a mortal man, not a god. He never thought of his mortality, he’d live forever.
Michael saw his council stand up in reverence as he entered. It was different from when he was a general. Now, he was the supreme ruler of the land. All trembled and bowed before him in fear and awe. Over the years, he had taken more power and no one stood in his way. He began to believe his own words; he had become a god for all to worship. “Sit, my fellows.”
Michael watched each of his handpicked men give their weekly reports, pleased that he had such a loyal and experienced group of advisors. He couldn’t have done what he did without them, and he was forever grateful. He’d do anything for them, without question.
Lord Harris was the first to speak. “The task of stocking for the winter is progressing without delay. We should be ready a month ahead of time. The weather patterns are consistently changing, so I don’t want to be caught unprepared. The realm now has a total of 610 people, including the 151 soldiers under Lord Williams command. There are 302 males of age, 78 males under age, 153 females of age and 77 females under age. We had two births this month, the second month in a row where we had more than one birth. We have provisions and space for an additional ninety for the near future and plans are made for increasing that number once winter is behind us again. There is no shortage of any items.”
“Thank you, Lord Harris. You amaze me at the progress you make each year, in spite of growing.” He turned to Lord Joseph. “How many females do we have that come of age this month?” Michael felt the stirring of his loins at the thought of new virgins to possess.
Lord Joseph answered him. “It will be a good month, Lord Michael. Three come of age, one of them will visit the day after tomorrow. I’m sure you’ll be pleased, as we’ll be. As to the rest of the subjects, we have no disease to speak of and all of our people are in good health” All of the lords looked forward to the women that came of age, Lord Joseph just as eager.
One of the early laws was to punish the defilement of any female under the age of eighteen with severity. The offense meant banishment from the realm, Lord Michael’s pronouncement final. Any female under the age of eighteen that lost their hymen by any natural means besides intercourse must report the occurrence immediately to Lord Joseph before the blood was dried. Once a female reached the age of ten, Lord Joseph required yearly examination to confirm the existence of her innocence by him personally. He looked forward to these examinations each year, especially for the females that neared the age of eighteen. He took into account for those that might have lost their innocence before they entered the protection of the kingdom. For those that neared the age of eighteen, he made the examination very meticulous and intimate. This was the beginning of their training for when they would be required to give the royalty the pleasure of their bodies in ways they never fathomed.
The subjugation of the females was explained in detail when they first requested entrance into the realm and sought its protection. For those that couldn’t or wouldn’t comply, they could leave without harm. Those that had husbands with them didn’t protest and none of the women chose to leave. The outside was a far more fearful place, and many of the women had suffered at the hands of scavengers. Though they knew their children would come under the same laws, the scavengers cared little about the age of females. They defiled them all, and most didn’t survive the attacks.
“You’ve done a good job of keeping everyone fit. I’m sure that the women that we’ll have this month will be enjoyable.” He turned his attention to Lord William.
He saw Michael look at him, so he didn’t wait for him to ask. “We’re well equipped and manned to fight off any invaders. I send out daily reconnaissance patrols to look for scavengers that might try to attack us, and at the same time, we are always on the lookout for other survivors that might need our assistance. I expect to see more survivors in the next month before winter sets in. After that, they’ll never survive our harsh winters.”
“Thank you, Lord William. We need more people, so be vigilant. We can flourish with fresh blood.” Michael loved that the survivors might be females. That was the best part of being king. Michael turned to Bishop Roman. “How is the spiritual aspect of our subjects?”
“Since you abolished marriage ten years ago, it has made the subjugation of the females much easier without any strings to another man. It has also increased the numbers of births each year. With birth control banned and multiple partners for the females, any problem of impotent males is diminished. The females have become more docile, though the introduction of bondage has increased the excitement in the relationship for the males. Surprising, we have found a new higher level of hesitation from the females, but rather than rebelling against this practice, they have embraced the newness and excitement of the sexual acts while constrained by ropes and other means, especially when taken by more than one male at a time. We’ll continue to explore this territory to the pleasure of the men and hopefully to the women.”
Bishop Roman continued. “As you have seen at our Monday services, the congregation has increased each week as they all praise the mighty Lord Michael, King of Meadow Brook Hall. I continue my personal meetings with individual subjects that might need spiritual or physical counseling.” That was the best part of Bishop Roman’s job.
“Yes, I know you devote so much time to your counseling, so many females in need of your words and touch.” Michael knew that he enjoyed the pleasure of many of the finest females the realm had to offer. None would refuse him in any act he wanted, and Michael knew that he required much from his women. “I want to thank you all for the excellent job you are doing. Is there any other problems I need to know of?” Michael never liked surprises. He heard them all murmur no. “Then, we shall meet tomorrow night when we will have the pleasure of the company of a new
female of age. Lord Joseph has told me that she is a beauty.”
They all went back to work.
CHAPTER 2
Final Examination of the Tribute
Two days prior to this meeting, Lord Joseph had the pleasure of the final examination of Priscilla. She would be the first woman presented to the king and the council in tribute this month.
Priscilla was nervous, even though she knew this day was coming for over five years. Her mother and father chose to stay at Meadow Brook Hall in spite of the strange customs. Once they entered, they were no longer officially married, though they stayed together as a family. As Priscilla grew older, her mother began to fill her in on the details of what will happen once she was over eighteen years of age and a woman.
Today, she had an examination with Lord Joseph. She had been forewarned that it would be extensive and intimate, far more intimate than the yearly exams she had before, but she knew this would just be a prelude of what would happen in two days with the king and the other lords. She sat nervously in the waiting room.
Joseph let her wait a long time, wanting to prolong it for her. He finally went into the other room. “Come in, Priscilla.” It had been a year since he examined her, and he hadn’t seen her in about six months. Her body had filled out along with her age. She was truly a woman now that she was eighteen today.
Priscilla saw Lord Joseph look at her as she entered. Her mother had made her a new skirt and shirt to wear for the occasion, fitted for her body. The skirt was short, above her knees, and it hugged her hips and ass. The blouse had buttons down the front, and it clung to her breasts like a second skin. Her mother made her leave the top button open, even though Priscilla had protested it as too bold. She couldn’t deny that she looked good, not like when she wore the simple shifts during the summer while she worked. She never thought of herself as a woman until now.
